How Do You Check a Turkish Dental Clinic's Ministry of Health Licence?

Every legal dental facility in Turkey holds a Ministry of Health licence. To check one: ask the clinic in writing for its licensed facility name, cross-check that exact name against the lists published by the province's Health Directorate, and confirm the same name appears on your contract — all before paying a deposit.

Why is the facility licence the first check?

Because everything else depends on it. Turkish health regulation treats a dental clinic as a licensed premises: the Ministry of Health (Sağlık Bakanlığı) framework governs who may open one, which clinicians are responsible for it, and what treatments it may offer. The licence is therefore the one credential no legitimate clinic can be without — and unlike review scores or glossy accreditation logos, it connects to an official paper trail you can follow from the UK.

The check also has a second, quieter function: how a clinic RESPONDS to the request tells you as much as the document itself. Practices that operate properly handle licence questions every week; the request costs them nothing and they answer it in writing without hesitation. Evasion, subject-changing or "trust us, we are fully certified" without specifics is an early, cheap warning that arrived before your deposit did.

What are the four steps of the licence check?

  1. 1. Get the licensed facility name in writing

Ask for the clinic's Ministry of Health facility licence details — including the exact legal name it is licensed under. Many clinics trade under a brand ("X Dental Smile Studio") while being licensed under a formal title; you need the formal one.

  2. 2. Cross-check with the Provincial Health Directorate

Each of Turkey's provinces runs a Health Directorate (İl Sağlık Müdürlüğü) that publishes lists of the licensed private oral and dental health facilities in its territory — Istanbul, Antalya and Izmir all do. Search the directorate's site for the exact licensed name. The Ministry's national portal is saglik.gov.tr.

  3. 3. Match the paperwork to the licence

The licensed entity — not the brand — is who your agreement is with. Confirm the licensed name and address appear on the written treatment plan, the contract and every invoice. A mismatch between the entity taking your money and the entity holding the licence is worth resolving before anything else.

  4. 4. Pause on any failure

If the name cannot be found, the clinic cannot or will not supply it, or the answers keep shifting — stop. Turkey has thousands of licensed clinics; there is no reason to gamble on the one that will not show its licence.

What does the licence not tell you?

A licence is the floor, not the ceiling. It confirms regulatory compliance of the premises and staffing; it does not measure clinical skill, material quality, honesty of treatment planning, or aftercare. That is why this guide is one of three. The second check — the International Health Tourism Authorisation search — covers whether the clinic may lawfully treat you as an overseas patient. The third — the contract and guarantee checklist — covers your personal protection after you fly home. And because facilities and people are licensed separately, the dentist registration check completes the set.

Applied together, the checks take under an hour and filter out the majority of problem scenarios UK patients report. Every clinic in our verification index has a page applying this method to that specific practice.

Licence check — FAQs

Do all dental clinics in Turkey need a Ministry of Health licence?

Yes. Oral and dental health facilities in Turkey are licensed premises: the Ministry of Health (Sağlık Bakanlığı) framework requires a facility licence covering the premises, its responsible clinicians and its permitted scope before a clinic may operate. A practice without one is not operating legally, whatever its marketing says.

How do I ask a clinic for its licence without causing offence?

Directly and politely — it is a routine request. Something like: "Before we book, could you send the details of your Ministry of Health facility licence and the name it is registered under?" Legitimate clinics deal with this constantly and answer without friction. A clinic that responds with a brochure, a discount or a change of subject has answered a different question.

Where can I cross-check a Turkish clinic licence?

Two official layers: the Ministry of Health itself (saglik.gov.tr) sets and oversees the licensing framework, and each province's Health Directorate (İl Sağlık Müdürlüğü) publishes lists of the licensed private oral and dental health facilities in its territory on its own website. Match the EXACT facility name from the licence against those lists.

What if the licence name differs from the clinic's brand name?

Common and not automatically sinister — many clinics trade under a brand while being licensed under a formal company or facility title. Ask the clinic to state, in writing, the licensed facility name behind the brand, then verify that name. What matters is that a specific, checkable licensed entity stands behind your treatment and appears on your contract and invoices.

Does a licence mean the clinic is high quality?

No — it is the floor, not the ceiling. A licence confirms the premises and staffing met regulatory standards; it says nothing about clinical excellence, materials or aftercare. Treat it as the first of three checks, alongside the health-tourism authorisation search and the written contract and guarantee checklist.

Is the licence check different for hospitals versus clinics?

The framework distinguishes facility types — polyclinics, oral and dental health centres, hospital dental departments — but the patient-side check is the same: identify the licensed entity that would treat you, and verify that entity by name with the provincial health authority. For hospital departments, the hospital's own licence covers the facility.
